- Description
- A storage-ring upgrade that will reduce the electron-beam emittance by a factor of ~75. This ultra-low emittance is achieved by replacing the present storage ring lattice with a multi-bend achromat (MBA) lattice. The MBA lattice will increase the x-ray coherent fraction by two orders of magnitude and decrease the horizontal source size by a factor of ~20. In addition, the APS-U is planning to build eight new featured beamlines and make optics upgrades to many others. One of the feature beamlines built as part of the APS-U will be dedicated to X-ray Photon Correlation Spectroscopy (XPCS) studies at sector 8ID of the APS. The 8-ID-I enclosure of the XPCS beamline will primarily perform Small Angle XPCS (SA-XPCS) measurements and occasionally be used for Ultra Small Angle XPCS (US-XPCS) measurements. A key element to the instrumentation required to perform these measurements is an integrated vacuum flight path and detector motion system. This flight path and motion system will allow for sample-to-detector distances ranging from 3 m to 11.5 m using a collapsing series of bellows. The detectors and a beam stop assembly will need to translate along the beam at the end of the flight path. The flight path system must also have the capability to rotate over a range of 0-5 in one direction in the horizontal plane about the sample center by mounting its support frame to a curved rail on the floor. This document is a request for a proposal that specifies the design, manufacture, test, delivery, and installation of a flight path and motion system that will serve as a central element to the 8-ID-I SA-XPCS instrument. Scope Details Flight path assembly Flight path support and alignment system Vacuum gauges, controllers, and cabling Vacuum pumps, controllers, and cabling Motor drivers, controllers, and cabling Flight Tube Location Figure 2: 8-ID-I hutch layout. Location of the SA-XPCS flight path is marked by the dashed green box. The SA-XPCS flight path will be located at the downstream end of the 8-ID-I hutch. Figure 2 shows a partial layout of Sector 8 with the location of the flight path marked by the green dashed box. The flight path is shown at its nominal 0 position as well as rotated -5 in ?Y about the sample position.
