- Description
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Office of Acquisition Services (OAS) on behalf of The Division of Viral Special Pathogens Branch, intend to award a sole source firm fixed priced simplified purchase order to Life Technologies Corporation to purchase a Kingfisher Apex 96 DW head and accessories. The main objective is for Life Technologies Corporation to provide a suitable automated system used for the purification and extraction of nucleic acid from a variety of biological samples. While there are other magnetic bead-based nucleic acid extraction platforms on the market, the MagMax chemistry is the only nucleic acid extraction chemistry approved for use in the branch for automated extraction. Protocols on this specific machine within the Viral Special Pathogens lab have been extensively developed to meet CLIA guidelines, safety procedures, and validation of repeated instrument results. These protocols need to be followed exactly due to regulatory requirements instrumentation and extraction kits cannot be changed. All the protocols have been developed and validated based on this magnetic particle separation technology for its consistent reproducibility and high quality. In addition, this instrument uses many of the same consumables as the larger 96-well instrument which are currently used in the laboratory and is brought to the field for higher sample throughput. This equipment is used for purification of virus genetic material to detect highly pathogenic special agent viruses and represent the core molecular diagnostic methods and assays for Ebola diagnostic at headquarters and in field situations/outbreaks as it is easily portable and robust. The extraction kits were developed, validated and safety tested extensively. Therefore, Life Technologies Corporation products and parts are necessary. No other known potential vendors have been identified to fulfill specified requirements. This contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (SAP) and 41 U.S.C. 3304(c)(1). Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, all quotations/responses received within five (5) days of the issuance of this notice will be considered by the government. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Any quotation /response should be emailed to the Contracting Specialist at lsf7@cdc.gov (CTR) by 4:00PM EST on 04-26-2021. No telephonic quotes shall be considered.
