- Description
- The NSA Annapolis grounds maintenance contract provides critical installation services to include: maintenance and upkeep of all lawns, flower beds, fields, and vegetated area at NSA Annapolis and the U.S. Navy Academy; the care,, maintenance and repair to athletic field in according with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) standards; the trimming, pruning, and care of historically sensitive trees at the U.S. Navy Academy, including arborist consultations emergency services to remove fallen trees impacting facilities, road access, or ATFP concerns; and ice and snow removal from pedestrian walkways and building entrances. The grounds contract at United States Navy Academy (USNA) and NSAA is vital to operation and mission success. The USNA is a highly visited naval base, which relies heavily on its reputation to encourage perspective students to apply. The grounds maintenance is a significant factor in the reputation, as grounds are some of the most visible aspects of the base. The loss of the grounds maintenance contract would severely affect the USNAs mission. The failure to uphold the training facility standards would result in the failure of the Naval Academys ability to fulfill its obligation of hosting NCAA sporting events and would create field hazards for exercising Midshipmen, affecting the mission of the Academy. The loss of the ability to clear downed trees, limbs, and other vegetative debris following storms and wind events would potentially affect road access for emergency security vehicles. The inability to clear ice and snow from pedestrian walkways and building entrances would create slip and fall hazards in winter months.
