Description

Sole Source to Zoetis The USDA APHIS VS Cattle Fever Tick Eradication Program (CFTEP) was developed to eliminate spread of the Cattle Fever Tick throughout the United States. Currently, a permanent quarantine zone (PQZ) has been developed along the southern Texas border from Del Rio to Brownsville, approximately 500 miles. One of the tools utilized by CFTEP to eliminate fever ticks is Bm86 Immunomodulator, an anti-fever tick vaccine developed by the USDA ARS, and manufactured by Zoetis for CFTEP. CFTEP is the only consumer of Bm86 Immunomodulator. The vaccine is not licensed for commercial production. USDA will use the Bm86 Jmmunomodulator, a vaccine specifically effective against cattle fever ticks Rhipicephalus annulatus and R. microplus, as a critical piece in an integrated pest management program for cattle fever tick eradication in fever tick infested areas of South Texas. Cattle are vaccinated with this product wherever USDA CFTEP veterinary epidemiologists determine there is an elevated risk for incursions of cattle fever tick infestation. The vaccine will be utilized as an essential tool for fever tick eradication. CFTEP is requesting 16,000 doses. There is no other cattle fever tick vaccine approved for use in the United States by the applicable regulatory body (USDA APHIS CVB). The vendor, Zoetis, has exclusive property rights to this product and no alternatives are available to meet USDA requirements.
