- Description
- The Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division, Lakehurst NJ, is seeking information on the design and production of a new Relay Box and Generator for the US Navy Mobile Air Start Unit MSU-200NAV (MSU). The MSU is used for main engine starting of US Navy and US Marine Corps aircraft. It delivers sufficient bleed air to start the main engines of all aircraft whose requirements are within the performance range of the unit. A gas turbine powerhead is used in the MSU, this powerhead consists of a single stage, single-shaft radial compressor and a single stage, single-shaft centrifugal turbine. Bleed air is extracted from the turbine compressor and delivered to the aircraft through a pneumatic starter duct assembly which is a component of the MSU. The subject relay box is constructed from sheet metal whose dimensions are approximately 9 x 8 x 5 and is mounted at the bottom via vibration isolators. The box contains replaceable relays which are for the starter, generator, and fuel boost pump. It also contains an hour meter which records turbine run time, a start counter and other electrical components necessary for operation of the unit. It interfaces with a Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) and other electrical system components. Additionally, there are two circuit breakers installed on the cover of the relay box. One is a 15 amp circuit breaker which provides over-current protection for the Fuel Boost Pump. The second is a 10 amp circuit breaker which provides over-current protection for the battery charging circuit and the 24 VDC supply to the FADEC and power on control circuits. The subject generator is a conventional 55 Amp / 24 VDC Bosch alternator with an integral voltage regulator / brush holder. The generator is attached to a gearbox via a direct drive coupling and delivers the electrical power for operating the MSU and for charging two 12 VDC, 50 Ah each maintenance-free batteries which are connected in series. It is requested that information be submitted NO LATER THAN 07 May 2021 to Mr. Domenick Davino, Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Code BL34100 B562-3, Route 547, Joint Base MDL, NJ 08733-5000, by electronic mail at: domenick.davino@navy.mil. Mr. Davino may be reached at 240-577-8088. Respondents are notified that there is no solicitation package available, and a formal solicitation MAY NOT necessarily result from the RFI.
