Salient Characteristics RTI BIOLOGICS CONSIGNMENT REQUEST Functions to be performed; Providing human allografts to OR stock using the approved consignment contract process to keep temperature sensitive implants in the OR subzero freezer. Performance required; Completion of consignment contract, notification to vendor to ship requested implants, receiving and storing implants in the appropriate environment, tracking usage and replacement of implants to maintain consignment stock, ensuring appropriate billing to company through the Prosthetics process. Essential physical characteristics; Dimensions (if applicable) RTI Biologics offers human allograft tendon and bone implants that must be stored and maintained at subzero temperatures. Most frozen stored allografts are harvested and cleansed using a process that requires terminal sterilization by irradiation. Irradiation has been shown to contribute to long-term failure of the grafts as implants, often necessitating further surgery to maintain patient s mobility and function. Many patients needing Sports Medicine surgeries are young, some in 20 s and 30 s, with every expectation of longevity. For this reason, the Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgery team is requesting consignment of human allografts harvested and cleansed without exposure to radiation. RTI Biologics distributes through a small veteran owned business, and as such, is an approved source for these implants.
