- Description
- CDC awarded modification 00001 to contract no. 75D301-20-C-08186to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, One Gustave L Levy Pl, New York, NY 10029-6504, on May 19, 2021in the amount of $1,748,619. This notices makes available a justification and approval for other than full and open competition (JOFOC) that applies to this contract modification. This contract modification was awarded under the authority of FAR 6.302-2, Unusual and compelling urgency. The original contract was for a prospective pregnancy cohort study thorough assessments of SARS-CoV-2 infection and immune response in pregnant women (symptomatic and asymptomatic), and in-depth assessment of pregnancy, fetal, and neonatal outcomes. The original contract included the analysis of blood samples and extraction of data from electronic medical records. The work added by this modification adds a questionnaire for a subset of the study sample, collection of placenta samples, and an in-depth immune response analysis. This requirement is a time-sensitive need of the agency as the findings from this study will directly inform the understanding of the impact of COVID-19 on pregnancy, fetal, and neonatal outcomes. Delaying this modification would have detrimental effects on the agency's response effort to COVID-19 by delaying the collection and analysis of this data.Mt. Sinai, the incumbent contractor, has performed a prospective pregnancy cohort study for the past ten months. Mt. Sinai has assembled a large sample for this cohort study which makes it uniquely suited to perform these follow-on study tasks. The attached JOFOC is being made available within 30 days of the contract modification award in accordance with FAR 6.305 and will remain active for 30 days.
