Project Overview: Reach 4 is the most downstream segment of the Cedar Rapids project. Major components of the overall Reach 4 project include an alignment of approximately 2375 feet, most of which is comprised of T-type reinforced concrete floodwalls (with sheetpile cutoff) 19-feet to 22-feet in height, a 18 non-contact cooling water pipe and gatewell, a 16,500 GPM pump station, a 12 non-contact cooling water pipe and gatewell, 500LF each of twin 84 culverts terminating in a gatewell, a storm sewer gatewell, 300 feet long earth embankment across an unnamed tributary, an Otis Road two 24 feet wide dual leaf swing gate closure, an UPRR railroad 55 feet wide steel roller gate closure (including secant pile wall), interior drainage storm sewers and relief wells, removal of the 16th Street Outlet, and a riverside maintenance/recreational trail. There is limited site access and availability with the contractor required to work around the daily Cargill operations. Due to flood risks the contractor will be restricted on when and how long the existing embankment can be removed for construction of the wall, pump station and adjacent structures. The contractor has the discretion of constructing a riverside causeway for additional access. The overall plans have been paired down to show the major features of the project. Plans are available for download.
