Description
The Library of Congress is the worlds largest library, offering access to the creative record of the United States and extensive materials from around the world both on-site and online. It is the main research arm of the U.S. Congress and the home of the U.S. Copyright Office. Visitors online can explore collections, use reference services and take advantage of other programs at loc.gov, the official site for U.S. federal legislative information at congress.gov and register creative works of authorship at copyright.gov. While Congress has invested generously in the Library over its history since 1800, private philanthropy also has played an important role in the development of the Library and other cultural institutions. Private donors have funded exhibitions and programs, including the creation of the Librarys John W. Kluge Center and Kluge Prize for Achievement in the Study of Humanity, as well as creation of the Librarys Packard Campus for Audio-Visual Conservation in Culpeper, Virginia. The Library is implementing a multi-year plan to transform the experience of its nearly 2 million annual visitors, share more of its national treasures with the public and show how Library collections connect with visitors own creativity and research. The Librarys plan to reimagine the visitor experience gained approval from the appropriations committees in Congress. To date, more than $20 million has been raised from the private sector to help implement the changes called for in the visitor experience plan. Librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden, envisions the Library as being more user centered for Congress, creators, and learners of all ages. A critical element of transforming the visitor experience, the Library continues to move forward with plans for its first-ever comprehensive fundraising campaign an integrated effort to secure private support for essential strategies and innovation across the Library. While the campaign -- envisioned as a multi-year effort culminating with America 250 in 2026 is expected to launch publicly in 2024, a quiet phase of cultivation of major donors is already underway. Beginning in FY19, the Development Office embarked on a strategy to expand the Librarys capacity to raise and use private funds to best support the Librarys vision and strategic plans. Development Office analysis identifies significant room to increase private support, including: increasing the amount given by existing constituents; strengthening and expanding major donors networks beyond the Librarys core Madison Council members; supporting internal and external partners to grow and nurture the donor base; and strengthening Development infrastructure and resources to sustain a consistent program of effective and efficient fundraising. The Library will utilize a compelling public-facing document, a case statement, to be developed by the contractor, and innovative print and web methodologies with appropriate messaging targeting multiple audiences, including major donors, annual donors, digital audiences, and the general public, in order for the Library to meet its campaign goal of $80 million by 2026. Responses to offeror questions are due July 12, 2021 at 12:00 Noon EST. Proposals are due July 27, 2021 at 12:00 Noon EST.
