- Description
- The United States Department of Commerce (DOC), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Acquisition Management Division (AMD) intends to negotiate a firm fixed price purchase order, on a sole source basis, with Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC, for the procurement of a replacement laser module for an existing Zeiss 800 Laser Scanning Microscope (LSM). The statutory authority for this sole source acquisition is FAR 13.106-1(b) by the authority of FAR Part 13 Simplified Acquisition Procedures. The Biophysics and Biomedical Measurements Group at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) requires a direct drop-in replacement laser module for its existing Zeiss LSM 800. A confocal microscope can image cells by using a laser source that allows for detail 3D imaging using a set of various wavelengths. These wavelengths provide the capability to image multiple cellular structures by using different fluorophores for different structures. The laser module is a critical component of this microscope since, without it, it is impossible to obtain the images with confocal resolution. Thus, the laser module is required to have a functioning confocal microscope. The laser module must be fully compatible with the existing LSM 800 hardware, it must be able to communicate with the proprietary software and firmware used to run the microscope, provide the appropriate light source for imaging with controllable power intensity, and control all safety features associated with a laser system coupled to this microscope. Installation by factory trained and authorized technicians is also required. Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC, as the original equipment manufacturer, is uniquely qualified to provide equipment which can ensure 100% compatibility with existing equipment, hardware and software and provide trained technicians that are experienced with the proprietary design and software used to run the existing system. Delivery shall be FOB DESTINATION and shall be in accordance with the Contractors established service lead times. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516 and the size standard is 1000 employees. No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, all responsible sources interested may identify their interest and capability to respond to this requirement. The Government will consider responses received by established due date/time set forth in this notice. Inquiries will only be accepted via email to joni.laster@nist.gov . No telephone requests will be honored. A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement in the future.
