- Description
- The DESALINATOR, HND, OP is an emergency use desalinator. This hand operated desalinator is capable of providing 4.5 liters (1.2 gallons) of drinkable ocean water per hour by removing up to 98.4% of salt (96% minimum) by reverse osmosis for 7-20 people. This desalinator emerged from the Naval Sea Systems ACAT IV acquisition program that placed additional requirements on the commercially available MROD-35LS, manufactured by Katadyn Desalination. These requirements included being packaged into Navy encapsulated MK6 life rafts and subject to temperatures ranging from ?22F to +140F for hours, drop testing in a MK6 raft from the height of an aircraft carrier flight deck and 1,000 hours continuous pumping of the MROD to ensure its durability and proper function.
