Description
The United States Military Acdemy, Department of Physical Education has a requirement for a weight load assessment for a 3rd. Floor Gym room. Based on the information below and the attached Performance work statement which includes the room layout; type of weight equipment and building specifications, the Government is anticipating an engineering reportfrom the contractor detemining whether the gym room can support the weight. Arvin Gym 3rd Floor Gym Structural Assessment Summary of Work Based on a review of the provided drawings, the existing structure at the existing weight room consists of a composite steel frame structure. West Point would like to remove all of the existing equipment from the room and provide new lifting stations and platforms that will be designed and supplied by Sorinex Fitness. Engineering Services In order to determine if the existing structure can support the dead loads of the new equipment as well as the live loads associated with dropping of weights and individuals, the following services are required: Review the existing building structural drawings to identify the existing structure as well as the existing design loads, if available. Review the proposed maximum operating weights of the Sorinex Fitness equipment. Review the material properties of the flooring and impact pads proposed for the lifting stations. Perform a structural analysis to determine if the existing structure can adequately support the proposed loads of the weight room. Provide a letter signed and sealed by a NY State Professional Engineer summarizing the analysis findings. If the existing structure does not have adequate load-carrying capacity to accommodate the proposed loading conditions, provide conceptual recommendations for how to modify the structure and will subsequently provide a proposal to design the required strengthening repairs.
