Description
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole source firm fixed price purchase order to Qiagen, LLC for the EZ1 Advanced XL. It is an automated magnetic bead-based extraction system that purifies reliable, high quality nucleic acid suitable for all different downstream applications. The MagNA Pure 24 from Roche uses the same technology and can perform up to 24 extractions per run, however, has a much larger footprint and reagents/consumables are not purchased in one kit, so the different kits can contain variable number of reactions, resulting in possibility of wasted reagent/consumable, as well as time setting up each run. Manual handling and reusing of reagents can also lead to the possibility of contamination. Only QIAGEN offers the combination of 1) full walk-away automation of up to 14 samples with, 2) proven self-contained sealed reagent strip chemistries, and 3) extraction protocols for all different sample types analyzed in the lab for the isolation of gDNA, bacterial DNA, viral NA and Total RNA. The system is cost effective in its capability to run 1 to 14 samples without wasting extra reagent or consumables. Each kit contains all reagents and consumables needed to process the samples, so there is no need to order materials separately. The Qiagen extraction chemistry is desirable because many reference laboratories have used the EZ1 successfully all over the world. This contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (SAP) and 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1). Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, all responses received within five (5) days of the issuance of this notice will be reviewed by the government. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Any response should be emailed to contract specialist at kgreen@cdc.gov by COB 07/23/2021.
