- Description
- Statement of Work Rodent Individually Ventilated Caging and Associated Equipment VAMC - Research Kansas City This solicitation uses a Brand Name or Equal Description of the product required. This permits prospective contractors to offer products other than those specifically referenced by brand name. All offers must work with existing equipment that has already been purchased and is currently in use at the station. Purpose: Individually Ventilated Cage (IVC) systems provide a safe environment for mice and rats that is free of variables for the optimization of preclinical research data. IVCs and their corresponding equipment also provide containment of laboratory animal allergens thereby protecting end users. Due to expanding census in the Animal Research Facility, IVC mouse and rat racks, caging, bottles, air handling units, and bottle fillers are needed in the vivarium to be used in conjunction with previously purchased Tecniplast IVC equipment. We require (2) 35-cage rat racks complete with cages, (1) 80-cage mouse racks complete with cages, (220) 340mL water bottles, (220) stainless steel bottle caps with seal, (150) universal cage card holders, (6) 500mm hoses, (3) air handling units, and (1) bottle filler. The equipment must have the following capabilities: IVC racks must have rounded, vertically oriented supply and exhaust plenums to allow washing in the existing rack washer. Racks must have a visual indicator showing that cages are docked properly Racks must not require levers to keep cages docked on the rack. Cages must have air supplied and exhausted at the cage top in order to minimize air velocity at the animal s level, thus eliminating any impact that the air velocity would have on animal behavior. Cages must have a baffle in order to direct supplied air to the front of the cage ensuring good air circulation throughout the cage. Cage top must have a 0.2 micron microbiological filter to protect animals and end users. Air handling unit must be able to accommodate (4) single sided IVC racks, must on casters, must connect to the rack via flexible hoses, must provide HEPA filtered up to 80 air changes per hour in positive or negative mode, and noise level must be less than or equal to 50dB. Bottle filler must have 36 nozzles in order to fit with current 18-bottle crates (3x6 configuration) filling two crate at once providing efficiency. Must be compatible with existing Tecniplast IVC racks, cages, bottles, air handling units, and logistics equipment.
