- VA Long Beach Healthcare Center System (VALLHCS) are requesting Brand Name (Medtronic/Covidien Sales�Situate Detection System X)�or Equal to assist their management of retained surgical items (RSI�s) of which a 2003 study in the New England Journal asserts that 88% occur when sponge counts are manually identified as incorrect. The agencies request is in keeping in line with pro-active compliance standards by providing a clinically proven 100% sensitive and specific detection system that utilizes non-ionizing low wave radio-frequency (RF) sensors to produce real-time console interface screen prompts that assist staff reconcile pre-and post-procedure manual sponge count and X-Ray inaccuracies prior to the surgical procedure close.
