- Description
- The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms (ATF) and National Disposal Branch (NDB) currently uses three industrial machines for the process of destruction of firearms from within ATF and other Department of Justice (DOJ) agencies. NDB uses the shredders and shears to destroy approximately 25,000 firearms per year.� ATF is seeking a redundant system to accommodate the number of firearms being destroyed on an annual basis.��� NDB has significantly increased the number of firearms that are destroyed on an annual basis to include Small framed firearms, silencers, silencer components, and magazines.� Some of these items are too small to be placed on the shear as they need to be held in place by hand in order to obtain leverage. By doing this the operator places his hand in direct line with the blades and would result in injury. Additionally, the protective cover which deflects shrapnel from flying into the workplace would have to be removed, resulting in additional safety concerns. NDB is attempting to obtain a commercially available or customized machine and one year of support services.
