Description
Associated Sources Sought Notice ID: RFI-LSMS-20210330 NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC)hereby solicits for quotes to provide design, development and delivery of an engineering model and a space rated system consisting of actuators and motor controllers for the Lightweight Surface Manipulation System (LSMS). The LSMS is a long-reach, robotic manipulator arm designed for offloading and maneuvering payloads of up to 1000 kg on the lunar surface at a reach of 8 meters. The estimated general scope and high-level specification of the deliverables are outlined below. There are two primary sets of actuators for the LSMS (Figure 1): The first set of three actuators are rotary actuators used to drive the three primary degrees of freedom of the robot. All three will be built to the same specifications, but the actuators that drive the two arm links of the robot, shall have right-angle gearing at the end of the actuators (1R). The third shall be a standard inline drive (1S). The second set of three actuators are lead- or ball-screw linear actuators (2) to drive a leveling base that the LSMS mounts to. Motor controllers are required for all actuators, with maximum commonality between hardware maintained where possible. Specific requirements and quantities for these products are included in the sections that follow. This RFQ requires the contractor to provide a cost and schedule plan for the following anticipated phases of award: Phase I (FY21): Design, analysis, manufacturing drawings, documentation and reviews (i.e., Non-Recurring Engineering) of the two sets of actuators, that allows direct follow-on procurement of hardware to build the engineering model (EM) and Flight units when Phase II is awarded. Phase II (FY22): Build and deliver EM versions of the actuators and motor controllers. Build and deliver Flight Units of the actuators and motor controllers. **PLEASE SEE ATTACHED SOW**
