- Description
- The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) needs tools for its new manual machine and repair shop. The very small footprint of the current shop does not have sufficient space for sheet material shearing, press and box/pan brake bending, stock sawing, air/hydraulic and arbor pressing and drilling capabilities. The new Prototype Instrumentation Lab in C119W has been configured with space for sheet material shearing, press and box/pan brake bending, stock sawing, air/hydraulic and arbor pressing and drilling capabilities for the NCATS Prototype Instrument Lab and this diverse set of machinery, tooling, tools and accessories required comprises a turn-key solution. Purpose The purpose of this acquisition is to acquire sheet material shearing, press and box/pan brake bending, stock sawing, air/hydraulic and arbor pressing and drilling capabilities BRAND NAME ONLY for the NCATS Prototype Instrument Lab. Salient characteristics: Refer to Attachment 1: Product Description for a complete list of BRAND NAME ONLY tools and the description of salient characteristics. Brand-name Justification Starting in 2019 when the 9800 Medical Center Drive C 1 renovation was being designed by Goudreau/Ewing Cole architects, the machinery that was to be used in the C119W Prototype Instrumentation Lab needed to be specified by manufacturer, brand, and model number in order to calculate weight, footprint, user area, and OSHA clearances aisles, as well as usage of electricity, compressed air, and water. The final equipment list is what the space was designed around, and that plan set is what was permitted and built out by Whiting-Turner, with whom the specifications and manufacturer's data sheets were shared. As the space in completed, it is inadvisable to deviate from these specific brands and models. Additionally, the list of machinery has been chosen on the basis of being size and capacity appropriate for the anticipated work the lab will see over the 30 year lease term without need for replacement with larger machines, and all are appropriate for a prototype shop setting vs continuous duty manufacturing for which the machinery is much larger, heavier, and more costly.
