Description
The quote for this work was $16,840.00. This price is fair and reasonable. The humidifier for this air handler unit (AHU) had failed and flooded the return air duct in front of the AHU serving the laboratory. The existing duct work had insulation on the interior of the duct. This created a possible medium for growth of unfavorable organisms. The duct started to have a musty odor that permeated the laboratory. The vendor was the only vendor in the immediate area that has the capability to manufacture duct work of this size and type. If this duct work is not replaced expeditiously the laboratory would have to be closed until the existing duct could be replaced. This equipment failure created an immediate emergency that could require the clinic to close or at a minimum not provide laboratory services. Two other vendors were contacted for prices, but were unresponsive in the time frame that was needed to correct the emergency. The existing return air duct was flooded with water due to the humidifier failure. The saturated interior insulation would most certain create a health concern for the laboratory/facility and cause the facility to possibly be closed. This created an emergency situation that required immediate correction. The contractor shall provide all plant, labor, materials, transportation, and supplies as needed for the complete removal and disposal of approximately 25 ft of 16 x 24 of return air duct work. All materials shall be removed and disposed of at an approved facility by the Contractor. The installation Contractor shall coordinate all work with the Facility Manager and Project Engineer. All construction shall be in accordance with the most recent publications of the National Plumbing Code, South Dakota State Plumbing Code, National Electric Code, National Fire Codes, AIA Guidelines, IBC, and shall be in accordance with all Industry Health Facility Standards and/or requirements. The Contractor shall perform the work with a minimum of disruption to the facility and if possible shall perform the work outside of regular business hours or perform the work on Saturdays. The contractor shall notify the Facility Manager a minimum of 2 days prior to commencement of work. The work shall at a minimum consist of the following;Remove and dispose of the existing water damaged 16x24 return duct work located in the crawl space for AHU-4.
