Description
General Equipment Name: Video Capsule Endoscopy THIS IS A BRAND NAME OR EQUAL (BNOE) FOR MEDTRONIC PILLCAM RECORDER/SENSOR AND ACCESSORIES Description & Salient Characteristics Video capsule endoscopy (often referred to as the PillCam) enables the physician to examine the entire small intestine, a part of the bowel that is difficult to reach through the upper GI tract and cannot be reached by colonoscopy, using a pill-sized video device that has its own camera and light source. Capsule endoscopy is a wireless technology used to explore regions of the small intestine that cannot be seen by other types of gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy procedures. The capsule, no larger than a vitamin pill, contains a tiny camera, light, battery and radio transmitter that is encased in a tiny plastic shell. The patient swallows the capsule, also known as a ""pill cam"". As the capsule descends through the digestive tract, pictures are taken and recorded on a sensor device worn on the patient's abdomen. At the end of the process, approximately 24 hours later, the capsule is passed naturally and painlessly during bowel elimination. The images retrieved from the recorder are then reviewed by physicians and can reveal evidence of a number of GI disorders and diseases. The system must meet the following criteria: Patency Capsule Must be dissolvable and biocompatible with lactose body with 10% barium to enable fluoroscopy visualization Timer plug to facilitate controlled disintegration of the capsule body Size must be identical to that of the video capsule devices Camera Capsule Able to capture images at a frame rate of at least 2-6 frames per second with adaptive capture based on capsule speed traveling through the small bowel Recorder Must have a built-in real-time viewer Worn by the patient Sensory Array With at least eight (8) lead sensors Sensor Belt Adjustable belt.
