- The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) is the Nation's federal health sciences university and is committed to excellence in military medicine and public health during peace and war. We provide the Nation with health professionals dedicated to career service in the Department of Defense and the United States Public Health Service and with scientists who serve the common good. We serve the uniformed services and the Nation as an outstanding academic health sciences center with a worldwide perspective for education, research, service, and consultation; we are unique in relating these activities to military medicine, disaster medicine, and military medical readiness. USU is located in Bethesda, MD on the grounds of the Naval Support Activity Bethesda. The mission of the USU is to provide the highest quality education programs in the health sciences to those selected individuals who demonstrate dedication to a health profession career in the Uniformed Services. Intent to Sole-Source: USU intends to award a sole-source, firm-fixed-price contract to California Advanced Labeling, Inc. for (1) �TubeWriter 360 - Direct High-Speed Alphanumeric Printing System for Labware� and (1) Installation and Training. Intended Recipient: California Advanced Labeling, Inc., 46750 Fremont Blvd, Suite 106, Fremont, CA 94538 Sole Source Justification: The Tubewiter 360 system from California Advanced Labeling, Inc. offers unique versatility in that a minimum of 10-15 tube types can be labeled with this system. This system allows printing directly on tubes, this is critical as end users have used existing system of printed labels which tend to fall off tubes and vials stored at cryogenic temperatures, which leaves vials with various samples unlabeled or mislabeled. Additionally, due to space limitations within USU the relatively compact dimensions of the system including the printing unit 18� x 18� x 16� (WxLxH) and the inkjet cabinet 13.6� x11.2� x21.3� (WxLxH).
