Richland, WA 99352 Classification Code: B Special Studies and Analysis Not R&D NAICS Code: 541990 All Other Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services Size Standard: $16. 5 (in millions of dollars) Title: Develop, deliver a materials specification that will allow DOE to propose economically viable solutions to controlling radionuclide air emissions during the DOE/ORP waste processing efforts Description: DOE intends to award a sole source contract to the University of Nevada, Reno, Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, located at 1664 N Virginia St, MS 0388 Reno, Nevada 89557-0388 to develop, deliver a materials specification that will allow DOE to propose an economically viable solutions to controlling radionuclide air emissions during the DOE/ORP waste processing efforts. Incumbent upon the performer is to develop other related innovative technologies needed for setting the manufacturing specification for a supplier. These studies will significantly reduce production and research delays and will represent significant cost savings to the DOE Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant and will provide the necessary technology through the development of an economically feasible sorbent media. Additional benefits will be realized through abilities to readily process or incorporate into a low-melting temperature vitreous waste form suitable for disposal at the integrated disposal facility (IDF). The proposed work will focus on 1) the formation of silica and mixed metal oxide (MMO) aerogels and xerogels with engineered interconnected porosity, and 2) the development of a volatile sorption system based on this material. Given the unique and necessary expertise required and the specific nature of this requirement, DOE ORP does not know of, and has not solicited other sources. Additionally, this effort is a direct continuation of an earlier successful effort by the specific principal investigator now associated with UNR. This notice is NOT a solicitation for proposals, and none will be accepted. The estimated total cost of this contract is $500,000 for an estimated thirty-six-month period of performance. Although DOE-ORP is not currently aware of other sources capable of filling this requirement, DOE-ORP invites interested small businesses to submit a Statement of Capability for DOE-ORP review. For questions regarding the technical aspects of this requirement, contact Albert A. Kruger, Glass Scientist, at (509) 373-1569. For other questions regarding this planned contract action, contact Margit Larrieu, Contracting Specialist, at (509) 376-4504 or by e-mail: Margit.Larrieu@rl.doe.gov THE ASSOCIATED STATEMENT OF WORK IS ATTACHED AS AN ATTACHMENT .
