The intent of this contract is to provide safe access to Forest Service lands by providing surface maintenance on the Hoonah Road System. The work includes all activities necessary to enable resource management activities along the roads in this project. The project includes Mobilization of Equipment to perform the work, and consists of a Base Bid and Six Option items with the following summary of work: Base Bid Includes the reconstruction of the 8530 road from False Bay to the Wukuklook bridge (approx. 3.2 miles). Work includes clearing and grubbing, blasting exposed bedrock to widen the roadway, placing borrow to fill dips and flatten out steep sections of the road, and installing/replacing culverts. Work on the 8530 road segment cannot commence until after August 1st due to nesting birds. Option Work: Option 1 - Includes blasting a rock knob on the 8502 road to increase site distance around a blind corner. Option 2 � Includes reconditioning and placing a 6� lift of crushed aggregate on the first 1.4 miles of the 8576 road. Option 3 � Includes clearing & grubbing and borrow placement to increase the size of the Bear Paw Lake Parking lot to accommodate one additional vehicle (16 passenger van). Option 4 � Includes removing an existing 0.60 mile-long boardwalk trail and replacing it with a rock trail. Work on this option cannot commence until after August 1st due to nesting birds. Option 5 � Includes installing two fire rings near the end of the 0.25 mile-long Bear Paw Lake trail. Start time restrictions for Base and Option 4 work are based on a potential for nesting birds. These timing restrictions may be eliminated after the FS has verified no birds of concern are nesting within the area. Option 6 � Includes Produce & Stockpile 2,500 CY of Crushed Aggregate, Type Base, Grading C End haul waste material site locations to be identified and staked by Forest Service, generally within 2 miles of project site. Side-casting will not be allowed in areas where material would be placed adjacent to live streams within 100 feet.
