- DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS VETERANS INTEGRATED SERVICE NETWORK (VISN) 16 CENTRAL ARKANSAS VETERANS HEALTH CARE SYSTEM REQUEST FOR INFORMATION 36C25621Q0090 SCOPE OF WORK AND GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS Background: This transaction is for the setup of an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) agreement with the vendor Abiomed for the ongoing purchase of Impella Catheters for base plus two option years (December 1, 2021 to November 30, 2022). Impella Catheters are used in the Cath Lab during emergency catheterization surgeries. The Impella is the world s smallest heart pump that provides cardiac support by pumping blood through the heart during a procedure. In high risk patients for whom surgery is not an option, interventional cardiac procedures utilize this ventricular assist device to assist the heart. This device can successfully save lives during high risk procedures when other options are no longer available. During high risk procedures, when the patient s heart is too weak every second counts to ensure a safe and positive outcome by saving lives. During a procedure, a catheter is inserted from the femoral artery into the heart and assists the heart with forward flow (the flow is dependent on the size of the catheter). The Impella Controller/CP Pump Set pulls blood from the left ventricle through an inlet area near the tip and expels blood from the catheter into the ascending aorta. It is utilized to maintain the patient cardiac output. Cardiac output is the #1 correlated mortality for acute myocardial infarction in cardiogenic shock patients. As well as decreases the patients risk of in hospital death and increases injection infarctions. The device is a requirement for extreme emergency cases and support for unprotected Left Main lesions. Reorder point for the device is set at four to sustain a safety level for the undetermined of surgeries that could occur.
