- Description
- GeoXO Lightning Mapper Phase A Study RFP Questions and Answers #2 Question 1- Reference LMXPORD 153- Does the exclusion of electronics unit/power supplies from the allowance to use single string design inthe referenced PORD section imply a requirement for electronics unit and power supplies to be block redundant? Answer to Question 1- Block redundant electronics unit and power supplies could be one implementation. Question 2- Reference LMXPORD120- Is the intent of this requirement that the average detection efficiency, averaged over 24 hours, be greater than 70% for every pixel in the full disk? Please clarify if there are allowances for defective pixels, or if the requirement should be averaged over a to be specified portion of the FOV. Answer to Question 2- Average over full FOV. Phase A trade study should provide information on handling of anomalous pixels and other detector defects per CDRL 5. Question 3- Reference LMXPORD128 and LMXPORD127 - Please clarify if there are allowances for defective pixels, or if the requirement should be averaged over a to be specified portion of the FOV. Answer to Question 3 - Average over full FOV. Phase A trade study should provide information on handling of anomalous pixels and other detector defects per CDRL 5. Question 4- Reference LMXPORD145 - Could a TBR be added to this requirement pending the completion of the ADC ENOB trade 2.1.1, LMXSOW20? Answer to Question 4- The trade study results will inform the need to change LMXPORD145 value for phase B. GeoXO Lightning Mapper Phase A Study RFP Questions and Answers #1 Question 1- On LMXPORD120 Table 1, are the minimum energy density based on measured lightning events and that the cumulative percent column shows the percent of lightning detected to have greater than the minimum detectable event energy density? In other words, 95 percent of the lightning will have energy density greater than or equal to 3.8 uJ/m^2/sr within the oxygen triplet state spectrum? Answer to Question 1- The vendor has made a correct reading of the table values. The first row indicates that 95% of detected lightning events have a lightning event energy greater than or equal to 3.8 J/m2/sr. Question 2- How shall the false event probability be calculated, referenced on RFP LMXPORD121? Is this 5% at L1b in relation to all false events or all true events? Answer to Question 2- The LMX system will produce the L1b data product of lightning events. As far as the system is concerned, all L1b events are lightning events. The vendor must calculate the expected distribution of noise events from all noise sources and determine the expected number of noise events that will pass through the LMX system as lightning events. In terms of equations: Total number of L1b events, N_L1b = N_true + N_false N_false = number of false events calculated from all sources (read noise, shot noise, radiation, S/C jitter, etc.) Prob_false = N_false/N_L1b, where Prob_false ? 5% Amendment 1 The GeoXO Lightning Mapper SOW has been updated to version 1.2 and is replacing the originally posted SOW version 1.1. Section 3.2 Contract Data Requirement List (CDRL), Line 6 has been updated. As a result of the updated SOW, Section J of the RFP is updated to reflect the proper version of the SOW. Both the updated SOW and the RFP with the updated Section J have been posted in Attachments to this Amendment. The Government is re-posting the original cover cover letter with slight changes to the GeoXO Lightning Mapper nomenclature and acronym. FROM: GEO-XO and (GXL) TO: GeoXO and (LMX). You are invited to submit a proposal in response to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) GeoXO Lightning Mapper (LMX) Phase A Study solicitation. This new procurement is for a definition-phase study of a GeoXO Lightning Mapper (LMX) instrument. The Lightning Mapper will be able to provide NOAA Lightning Mapper operational data that will be used by NOAA and other public and private agencies to produce forecasts of severe weather and to issue warnings for public safety. The Lightning Mapper is planned to fly on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) GeoXOprogram series of geostationary satellites with the first launch planned for 2032. Please see the full cover letter in the attachments list.
