- Sources Sought The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to determine the availability of qualified businesses capable of leasing an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) to support the collection of geophysical and geochemical data in the Escanaba Trough, Northeastern Pacific as described in the Statement of Work below. This sources sought announcement is not a request for quote or proposal and the Government is not committed to award of a purchase order or contract pursuant to this announcement. The information resulting from this market research is simply for planning purposes to assist the Government in determining its acquisition strategy. The Government will not pay for any costs incurred in the preparation of information for responding to this notice. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code 541990 - All Other Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services and associated size standard $16.5 million annually apply to this announcement. All responsible sources may submit capabilities statement detailing the ability of their service to meet the statement of work included with this announcement. Responses to this announcement shall only be accepted through electronic mail addressed to nlushenko@usgs.gov and must be uploaded and received in their entirety no later than December 13, 2021 at 1700 ET. STATEMENT OF WORK: The U.S. Geological Survey has a requirement for an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) to support the collection of geophysical and geochemical data in the Escanaba Trough, Northeastern Pacific. The planned operations are from May 25- June 12, 2022, on the ship the Research Vessel Thompson. The AUV will leave with the vessel from port in Newport, OR and transit on the vessel to the study site offshore northern California. Approximately 18 work days will be spent on site using the AUV to collect geochemical and geochemical data. Upon completion of the work, the ship and AUV will return to Newport, OR. VEHICLE OPERATIONAL SPECIFICATIONS TO BE PROVIDED TO USGS Name and detailed description of the vessel to be used under this contract VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS (1) The vehicle must be an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) (2) The vehicle must be able to work at 3500 m water depth (3) The vehicle must be able to be deployed from the R/V Thomas G Thompson (4) The vehicle must be available in Newport, OR in May 2022 to join the R/V Thomas G Thompson (5) The vehicle must have extreme maneuverability, close bottom following, be able to accommodate large and innovative payloads, operate simultaneously with the ROV Jason, and transit rapidly to and from the seafloor. (6) The vehicle must be able to create bathymetric, sidescan, subbotom, detailed magnetic, chemical and temperature maps of the seafloor as well as high quality digital color photographs in a variety of deep-sea terrains. (7) The vehicle must navigate using a doppler velocity log and inertial navigation system, aided by acoustic navigation systems (USBL) (8) The vehicle must be able to accommodate 24-hour scientific operations (9) The vehicle must be able to accommodate geochemical sensor integration including user supplied science payloads such as iSP and methane
