PURPOSE Alaska Fire Service, BLM, is seeking a vendor capable of packing smokejumper food boxes and pails from a provided food list into a specific dimensions box and pail. They will be dropped from an aircraft. The purpose of this RFI is to: 1. Identify potential vendors capable of providing packed boxes and pails. 2. Receive industry feedback from vendors on the draft SOW and attachments. The input can be in the form of comments, questions, or suggestions. In support of this effort, the Alaska Fire Service, BLM, is conducting market research to further refine requirements and establish the best acquisition approach. Please note that requirements defined to date may change before issuance of a final RFP/RFQ. III. REQUIREMENTS The solution must be able to provide the following capabilities and features, unless otherwise noted. Requirement A: 250 packed food boxes annually, delivered in the spring of each year, using the attached food list. The box dimensions need to be 14x12x8. Requirement B: 450 packed food pails annually, delivered in the spring of each year, using attached food list. Initially the pails can be provided by Alaska Fire Service, but we are seeking feedback on the vendor providing the pails in the future. If the fire season dictates, there is a possibility we could need more boxes and pails built during the season. The selected contractor(s) will be responsible: Packaging food boxes and pails with products with shelf life/best by dates to last through the fire season each year. Assembling completed food box with food items as specified on the attached list to include packaging notes of plastic bag use. The box should be sealed using Uline 2-inch clear packing tape (S-447) or comparable, 360 degrees around the main box seam for strength. The box will also have a strip of tamper proof tape applied for simple verification of box has not been opened. The box will then be labeled on long side and short side with kit labels provided. Assembling completed food pail with food items as specified on the attached list to include packaging notes of plastic bag use. The pail will be sealed using the provided large rubber band (Big Red NFES# 00727) and placed inside the provided plastic bag. The bag will be sealed with provided tamper proof tape to provide verification the pail has not been opened. Transportation to Alaska Fire Service, Warehouse Cache on pallets. Pallets will be wrapped to prevent spillage and weather damage. Labeling or stamping each food box/pail with date filled and the earliest shelf life or best by date placed on the box or pail. AFS Fire Cache will be responsible: AFS may provide proper size boxes, pails, large rubber band (Big Red) tamper proof tape kit labels and specific plastic bags as required.
