Description
Update 10 December 2021: This RFI will be extended to 31 January 2022 Update 11 November 2021: Each vendor may submit up to 5 different submissions rather than the 2 that was originally posted. This RFI will be extended to 31 December 2021 Update 08 November 2021: The reference to MIL-PRF 32635 Type VI is a typo.It should read MIL-PRF-32635 Type V. Sage 1659 and Tan 1654 are the newest Sage and Tan colors and will be preferred if OCP is not desired. Q - Will antistatic be part of the requirement? A -TheElectrostatic Static Decay (ESD) requirements will ultimately be a user decision based on an attribute tradeoff analysis. If the submitter has the capability to add ESD capabilities, just note it in the RFI submission, but ESD capability is not expressly required to be part of this submission. Original Post: For additional information please see attachment to this RFI BACKGROUND: The Improved Combat Vehicle Crewman (iCVC) Coverall is a one-piece, fire-resistant garment with a front entry, zippered closure with dual sliders. It has a drop seat, upper back extraction strap, collar with front throat protection, zippers on the sleeves and legs, and nine pockets. The coverall is a blend of inherently FR fibers (39% Nomex), synthetic fibers (31% nylon), and 30% cotton. The iCVC, in its current configuration, is not well received by the User due to being hot, heavy and having a poor fit. The command is able to authorize the User to wear the FR Army Combat Uniform (FR ACU) or the Advanced Aircrew Combat Uniform (A2CU) instead. Based on continuous feedback from the User; declining budgets; and the desire for a lighter weight, more breathable and more comfortable iCVC uniform; PM SCIE is seeking new and novel FR materials that are significantly lower in cost. At this time, PM SCIE is only considering material improvement since design updates will occur after the identification of acceptable materials. DESCRIPTION: The material should be lightweight, low cost, breathable, comfortable, FR, and be able to meet minimum requirements as listed below. Material submission should be technically ready to the extent that quantities could be shipped (if required) prior to 01 Aug 2022 (approx. 500 600 yds). REQUIREMENTS: The iCVC material shall: Be comfortable and breathable in hot and humid environments Be significantly less expensive than current FR materials Be technically ready to the extent that quantities (approx. 500 600 yds) could be shipped (if required) prior to 01 Aug 2022 Self-extinguish and have an after flame of less than 2 seconds when tested according to ASTM D 6413, both initially and after 100 launderings Capable of being printed in OCP or dyed Coyote 498, Sage Green 1590, or Desert Tan 380 Minimize irritation against the skin Be Berry Amendment compliant
