Description
This requirement is for the procurement of a low-temperature (LT) ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) AFM/STM (LT-AFM/STM) for the Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), a U.S. DOE owned R&D Federal Research Laboratory, operated by a Contractor, UChicago Argonne, LLC, under a Prime Contract between UChicago Argonne, LLC and U.S. DOE. The microscope, hereafter referred to as Optical/RF LT UHV AFM/STM, will be the major instrument procurement for the recent Nanoscale Science Research Center (NSRC) Quantum Information Science (QIS) award for the Atomic Quantum Information Surface Science (AQuISS) Lab at the CNM. It shall be designed to provide a combination of capabilities for sub-nm scanning probe imaging resolution, spectroscopy, and equipped with custom high-numerical aperture (NA) optical and radio-frequency (RF, <3GHz) access to the tip and sample. The system shall be paired with compatible control electronics and shall also be equipped with ancillary combined preparation/analysis chamber. This new system will enable atomic-scale spatial imaging resolution and atomic-resolution analytical capabilities, which when paired with precision optical and RF manipulation and readout - are important for studying materials in quantum information science, photocatalysis, photophysics, and plasmonics. The CNM is a user-oriented research center whose mission is to be an open facility for the nanoscience research community and to advance the science of nanomaterials that address the nations challenges. New and unique capabilities will enrich both internal research and the user program. The successful offeror will be required to fabricate, test, deliver, install, acceptance test, and train designated Argonne employees on the use of this facility. Installation and training is subject to contractor's compliance with Argonne's on-site access requirements and Environment, Safety and Health Requirements.
