- Description
- The Office of the Secretary intents to award a sole source for the Bureau of Economic Analysis to Nielsen Consumer LLC,�200 W. Jackson Blvd Ste 2600, Chicago, Illinois 60606-6943. The procurement is for tobacco monthly data that allows for the accurate calculation of consumer spending on tobacco products of personal consumption expenditure estimates used in the gross domestic profit (GDP) accounts. Nielsen Consumer LLC is the only source known to privide tobacco data information, insight, and news. Requirements: Section 1- Introduction/Background BEA provides many economic measurements as part of the National Income and Product Accounts (NIPAs).� The NIPAs are used for a variety of purposes in setting national economic policy and in forecasting and interpreting macroeconomic activity.� They include gross domestic product (GDP), which is considered the most useful summary measure of the Nation�s production.� BEA, as the nation�s accountant and one of the world�s leading statistical agencies, collects source data, conducts research and analysis, develops and implements estimation methodologies and disseminates statistics to the public. In this role, BEA collects source data from many specific sectors of the economy.� � � � � � � � � � � � � � � � � � It is important that BEA continually strives to improve and rely on accurate and consistent source data to develop improved measures of Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE), which is the largest component of GDP.� The objective of this procurement is to obtain data on consumer spending on tobacco products. This will help improve the estimation of PCE in the NIPAs. Section 2- Statement of Objectives The tobacco data allows for the accurate calculation of consumer spending on tobacco products, including vaping products, for the monthly GDP and Personal Income and Outlay release.� The contractor shall: Provide BEA with point of sale data on tobacco products on a quarterly frequency with monthly breakout detail. The data should be provided quarterly to BEA. Provide the following data, which includes sales to consumers: Point of Sale data for: Cigarettes Cigars Chewing Tobacco Pipe Tobacco Shag Tobacco Combination Packs Tobacco Alternatives Vapor Data would include the Total US Market, All Outlets Including Convenience Stores Data provided would include: $ Units EQ Units Average Unit Price Any Promo $ Provide five years of historical data to BEA with the first quarterly delivery. This is necessary for BEA�s seasonal adjustment processing. Delivery: Quarterly deliverables.
