- Description
- The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Forest Service (FS), Intermountain Zone, Caribou-Targhee National Forest has a need for Bridge Materials, including stringers, abutment sill, backing planks, deck, handrail, running planks, and all hardware to attach and assemble these items. Timber elements are to be manufactured (cut and drilled) prior to treatment per specification in the plans. Also included in this purchase are the following: timber sill and abutment anchor bolts and straps. Not included in this purchase are the following: assembly and installation. Materials and treatment shall be according to the specifications in the plans. Dimensions and quantities shall be verified by the vendor and submitted via shop drawings. The required treatment is intended to meet federal law governing hazardous materials and meets current best practices for timbers and dimension lumber which will be installed and permanently exposed outdoors. Prospective offerors are permitted to suggest alternative preservative methods or materials for Government review prior to submitting a quote. Alternative preservatives are acceptable and may be permitted at the Government�s discretion, if they may provide better value to the Government, or have preferred health and safety characteristics. Offerors considering alternative preservatives should be aware the areas of the bridge having high levels of contact by users must use a water-based preservative. Copper Naphthenate Type A is permitted for preservative on the backing boards, sills, stringers, decking, and rail posts. CA-C treated (waterborne preservative) is permitted for the running planks and railings. In addition, the product Kleer Gard 25 is permitted as a preservative for the above ground contact timbers, use category AWPA UC4A Preservative retention levels are not changed: AWPA UC4A (above ground use) � minimum retention of 0.24 pcf AWPA UC4B (permanently in contact with soil) � minimum retention of 0.50 pcf Approved shop drawings are required before fabrication. Quoters should assume award notification by March 7, 2022. Shop Drawings Should be submitted within 7 calendar days of award notification and will be reviewed for conformance with the specifications. Approval of shop drawings that meet specifications will occur within 7 calendar days of submission for Government review. A Free of Heart Center (FOHC) requirement is NOT applicable to these trail bridges. FP-14 is the required standard specification that has superseded FP-03. Delivery is to be �F.O.B.� and �to be assembled by others.� All final shop drawings are to be sealed by a professional engineer registered in the State of Idaho. Delivery of materials shall be by July 15, 2022, in order to meet an installation window of July 15 � September 30. Delivery shall take place Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. excluding federal holidays, unless otherwise approved by the Contracting Officer. Notice of delivery by the vendor is required 48 hours in advance to allow for the government to coordinate offloading.
