Description
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Acquisition Management Division, on behalf of the NIST Fabrication Technology Office (FTO), intends to award on a sole source basis a contract to Lang GmbH & Co. KB under the authority of FAR Subpart 13.106-1(b), Soliciting from a Single Source. Background: The Fabrication Technology Office provides a wide range of engineering, fabrication and technical services to support the creation of unique measurement instruments and scientific apparatus needed by NIST scientists and research staff. The group provides the mission critical engineering and manufacturing expertise and equipment needed to produce specialized parts and subassemblies for a variety of one-of-a-kind instruments conceived by NIST scientists and engineers. To meet mission requirements, the FTO requires a new Lang Impala 400SL. In addition, FTO is upgrading their existing engraving and milling machine system (Lang Impala 400). FTO requires the upgraded system to provide increased throughput, 3D capabilities, adaptive preproduction modifications, and sustainability while fully maintaining backwards compatibility with a vast library of Lang design files. The purchase of this milling system upgrade is necessary to permit/restore precise, high quality manufacturing, and IT sustainability with regards to LErgoCADTM software with proprietary file formats: .LR2 and .RLF. The upgrade of the Lang Impala 400 and the new Lang Impala 400SL will also enable the efficient use of NIST existing Lang systems ancillary devices and design libraries. FTO needs the two Lang Impala milling systems to conduct synchronize milling operations on work pieces. The two systems need to be able to run off the same program that all reference access is the same (i.e. the axes are the same). Therefore, the resultant features can be compared as required by the research initiatives. Interested parties that believe they could satisfy the requirements listed above for NIST to provide a Lang Impala400SL milling machines systems and upgrade a Lang Impala 400 may clearly identify their capability to do so in writing on or before March 15, 2022 at 12:00 pm Eastern time. This notice of intent is not a solicitation. Information submitted in response to this notice will be used solely to determine whether competitive procedures could be used for this acquisition. Any questions regarding this notice must be submitted in writing via email to robert.singman@nist.gov.
