- Description
- THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR BID - PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND LOCATION:The Klamath National Forest (KNF) sustained significant damage to transportation facilities, including bridges during the 2020 fire season. The US Forest Service (FS) is requesting that the Central Federal Lands Highway Division (CFLHD) perform engineering and construction services to replace the Upper West Branch Bridge structure utilizing Emergency Repair for Federally Owned Roads (ERFO) and Forest Service funds. The project site is located in Siskiyou County. CA., approximately 1/3-mile northwest on Forest Route 18N31 from Grayback Road. The original bridge was a 79-foot x 11-foot, single-lane, steel truss bridge with concrete abutments and timber decking. SCOPE OF THE WORK:The purpose of this project is to fully replace the Upper West Branch Creek Bridge on Forest Route 18N31. This bridge was damaged by fire in 2020 and will be fully replaced with a proposed concrete bridge utilizing wood cellulose nano-crystals (CNC) incorporated in the concrete mix design for precast concrete girders. A 90-ft x 16-ft proposed structure is anticipated. Portions of the existing abutments are proposed to remain, but will not be used to support the new bridge. The roadway approaches will be reconstructed for up to 150 feet on either end of the bridges. The bridge and a short section of the roadway approaches will be asphalt overlaid to reduce sedimentation into the stream. Bridge rail and guardrail with terminals will be included. Items worth noting: Oregon State University (OSU) is a project partner and will be providing concrete mix-design advice with the inclusion of CNCs. The work will be listed within a single Schedule (Schedule A) and no options are proposed. Adjacent segments of Forest Route 18N31 will remain closed during construction and can be used for contractor staging and storage. Access is to both sides of the bridge is possible by an approximate 6-mile detour. Deep foundations (micro-piles or drilled shafts) are anticipated PRINCIPAL WORK ITEMS: Approximate quantities for major work items: 1 (LPSM) of Removal of Existing Structures and Obstructions 300 CUYD of Excavation/Embankment Construction 500 CUYD of Riprap 200 TON of Roadway Aggregate 90-ft x 16-ft of Concrete Bridge 200 TON of Asphalt Pavement 150 LNFT of Guardrail 80 hours of Equipment Hours 80 hours of Labor Hours 300 SQYD of Turf establishment 1 (LPSM) of Temporary Traffic Control ANTICIPATED SCHEDULE: Advertise:March 2022 Award:April 2022 Construction:May 2022 October 2022 ESTIMATE: The anticipated cost range isbetween $1,000,000 and $4,000,000.
