Description

AFCEC/COMR has an urgent need to procure 20 each Fairlead Beam Assembly, P/N: 52-W-2295-201, NSN: 1710-01-098-4984. This item is a critical safety item (CSI) used to support BAK-12 Arresting Absorber System and Mobile Aircraft Arresting System (MAAS) whose sole mission is to stop tail hook equipped fighter aircraft on aborted take off (engine failure) or when declaring an, flight emergency requiring the aircraft to engage the runway barrier to prevent potential damage to the airframe and/or loss of aircrew. The shortage of Fairlead Beam Assemblies further delays Tyndall CEMIRT's AAS program over all mission. The lack of usable cores required to meet the technical order mandated ten overhaul and upgrade of Fairlead Beam Assemblies to the new USAF and FAA heavy weight configuration is the driving factor for new Fairlead Beam Assembly. The Fairlead Beam Assembly has to meet the 75 Kip wheel load requirement in the event a heavy cargo aircraft runs off the active runway and over the barrier tape sweep area. Red Horse Squadrons use the Fairlead Beam Assembly to support temporary barriers for air shows and to support training and contingency aircraft missions worldwide.
