VA HANDBOOK 6500.6 MARCH 12, 2010 APPENDIX C C-12 Pre-solicitation Notice of Intent to Sole Source Pre-Solicitation Notice of intent to award a sole source contract.  This is not a solicitation. The Department of Veterans Affairs intends to negotiate a sole source contract with:    Inspire Medical Systems, Inc. DUNS: 012419779 ueiSAM: W8KNL8QJD6H3 5500 Wayzata Blvd Ste 1600 Golden Valley, MN 55416-1237 Congressional District: 05 This is not a solicitation. The Department of Veterans Affairs intends to negotiate to purchase implantable pulse generator for direct patient care needed for surgery. Inspire Medical Systems, Inc. ( Inspire ) is the sole source of the Inspire therapy system, an implantable nerve stimulator system used to treat moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (the Inspire Therapy System ). The Inspire Therapy System consists of (a) implanted components, including an implantable pulse generator, a stimulation lead, and a sensing lead, and (b) external components, including a physician programmer and a patient programmer. In the United States, the Inspire Therapy System can only be purchased directly from Inspire. Competition in providing the Inspire Therapy System is precluded by the existence of patent, copyright, and trade secrets. There are no other like products available for purchase that would serve the same purpose or function, and there is only one price for the Inspire Therapy System. Since the intent is to procure this on a sole source basis, no solicitation will be posted to FedBizOps (FBO). The size standard is 1,250 employees.
