Description
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to determine the availability of qualified businesses capable of providing a quantity of six 1MHz Broadband and pulse-coherent acoustic Doppler profilers for autonomous deployment to acquire long-term measurements of current velocity profiles and waves for an Independent Verification and Validation study of artificial reefs. See the below salient characteristics. This sources sought announcement is not a request for quote or proposal and the Government is not committed to award of a purchase order or contract pursuant to this announcement. The information resulting from this market research is simply for planning purposes to assist the Government in determining its acquisition strategy. The Government will not pay for any costs incurred in the preparation of information for responding to this notice. The applicable North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code is 334513 Instruments and Related Products Manufacturing for Measuring, Displaying, and Controlling Industrial Process Variables, with the associated size standard of 750. All responsible sources may submit a brochure and/or technical specifications detailing the ability of their product to meet the required features and specifications included with this announcement. Responses to this announcement shall only be accepted through electronic mail addressed to thuot@usgs.gov and must be uploaded and received in their entirety no later than March 29, 2022 at 1700 PD. Responses submitted by hardcopy or the SAM web portal shall not be accepted or considered. Required features and specifications Pacific Coastal & Marine Science Center (PCMSC) requires six 1MHz Broadband and pulse-coherent acoustic Doppler profilers for autonomous deployment to acquire long-term measurements of current velocity profiles and waves for an Independent Verification and Validation study of artificial reefs. Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs) are the standard in current measurement, replacing older, more man hour intensive technologies. Current measurements throughout the water column are an integral part of this field program, and in particular, the ability to take multiple, precise measurement of the currents within a single meter with high frequency is necessary to resolve wave velocities and turbulence in the vicinity of artificial reef structures. A 1 MHz unit is required for the water depth and desired depth resolution at the proposed deployment site. The size and shape of the instrument itself is important for mounting considerations and can significantly affect the measurements of other instruments and must be considered. High resolution measurements of acoustic backscatter and vertical velocity are critical to studies of turbulence and sediment transport. The essential required characteristics are: A. Broadband acoustic Doppler measurements of currents and waves B. 5 acoustic beams with one oriented vertically C. Instrument housing to be less than 6 inches in diameter, and 6.5 inches tall to fit mounting constraints D. Ability to record high-resolution pulse-coherent profiles of currents (<0.05m cell size) on at least one acoustic beam E. Ability to record very high-resolution profiles of backscatter (<0.005m) on at least one acoustic beam F. Ability to record broadband profiles of average currents interleaved with bursts of pulse-coherent profiles of currents. G. Ability to measure currents up to 16 Hz H. Burst data collection capability I. 64Gb of internal memory J. Ability to write data into netCDF format for data dissemination and archival
