- Description
- Statement of Work High-power Illumination Source for Explosive Events 1.0 Introduction/Background The government seeks a small form-factor, spoiled coherence, high-power illumination device for ultra and high-speed cameras to observe explosive events. The timing needs to be precise (within the nanosecond scale) having easy integration into current camera systems, and the light intensity (equated to power) needs to be high in order to overpower light emission from an explosive event. This can be achieved by using laser source with hundreds of Watts of output power, in conjunction with a bandpass filter. Time duration of the light source needs to be flexible for pulsing, or continuous output, up to tens of microseconds. 2.0 Scope/Initiative Objective The project would consist of the purchase of a small form-factor, spoiled coherence, and high-intensity laser system to be used for illumination of explosive events. Specifically, a narrow wavelength laser light that can be integrated into explosive testing and synchronize with current, on-hand, ultra-high-speed cameras. 3.0 Applicable Documents Document list to be added by government. 4.0 Requirements small form-factor, spoiled coherence, high-power laser at least 400W of output power output wavelength near 640nm (+/- 50nm) small form-factor, system fits within 6 inch cube (+/- 1 inch) simple integration for timing and synchronization into Phatom, Photron, Kirana, and SIMD cameras pulsed or continuous output, must be able to run at up to 10 MHz and less than/equal to 10 ns pulse widths to tens of microseconds in duration 5.0 Deliverables High Power Pulsed Laser System with at least 400 watts peak power pulse widths from ~10 ns to 30 microseconds. liquid light guides 25mm and 50 mm beam expanders safety goggles safety interlock. High quality 50 mm 640 nm band pass filter. 10 nm FWHM. For High resolution cameras like SIMX and SIMD. Standard quality 50 mm 640nm band pass filter. For lower resolution cameras like HS Video and on chip storage cameras. Place of Performance (storage location of Laser System): NSWC Indian Head Division, 3767 Strauss Ave, Bldg. 695, Indian Head, MD 20640 Expected Delivery: I June 2022
