- Description
- Radiology Dictation and Report system is a speech recognition solution providing workflow productivity tools that improve tasks for all involved in interpretation and delivery of diagnostic imaging exams. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Integrated Services Network (VISN)15 requires an upgrade to the existing PowerScribe Radiology Dictation and Report system with integration to VA Vista/RIS, Philips Intellispace, Cerner and imaging modalities. In preparation for future pandemics such as COVID-19, the Veterans Health Administrations (VHA) National Radiology Office recommends that VISNs establish a Cross Facility reading capability. To have the Cross Facility reading capability among the facilities in VISN 15, VA must be using the same Dictation System and one server and database environment. VHA Radiology recommends Cross Reading capability as part of a teleradiology workflow during pandemic time such as COVID-19. VISN 15 utilizes a centralized deployment of the Nuance PowerScribe 360 platform for its voice recognition system. PowerScribe is an automated speech-to-text conversion software systems which provide the capability for the radiologist to dictate, edit and sign radiology reports at the time of interpretation. This system is interfaced into the VISNs Philips Intellispace Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) and Electronic Health Record, Veterans Health Information System Technology Architecture (VistA)/Computerized Patient record System through the Vista Imaging Archive. The current software version must be updated prior to VISN 15s conversion to the new Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) Medical Record. Additionally, the supporting hardware is end of life and needs to be upgraded to further extend the capabilities of the platform.
