Description
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is issuing an RFP, Office of Facilities and Property Management (OFPM), Grounds Service and Support shop provides wildlife management services on the Gaithersburg campus. As part this service Grounds Shop employees addle goose eggs, remove goose nests in problem areas, and clean walkways of goose droppings around campus. Six or more years ago, NIST contracted the services of a goose herding company which used dogs to herd geese and chase them off property. The dog is seen as predator by the geese which encourages them to leave the property and perceive the area as unsafe. The herding dogs do not harm the geese and are very effective at reducing the number of both resident and migrating geese on a property. The objective of this service will be to reduce the number of geese on the property which is currently between 500 and 1000 depending on the time of year to under 100 geese. These geese will be steered towards the pond areas and wet land areas on campus and away from buildings and public spaces. Objectives The objective of this contract is to reduce the number of resident and migrating geese on the NIST campus. Remaining goose population should be restricted to pond and wet land areas to the extent possible. Geese are to be deterred from gathering around building and in fields adjacent to building to minimize goose and people interactions, as well as to reduce the amount goose dropping left on walkways by their use of these areas. The end goal of this contract is to get the goose population down to 100 or fewer geese site wide.
