- Description
- Film Arrays have the functionality of performing under one single platform the screening of a myriad of febrile pathogens, which cause acute febrile illness, and doing so with the highest sensitivity and specificity. The BioFire Global Fever Panel detects and identifies selected bacterial, viral, and protozoan nucleic acids directly from EDTA whole blood collected from individuals with signs and/or symptoms of acute febrile illness. The GFP pouch conducts nineteen tests for the identification of 19 viral, bacterial, and protozoan pathogens: Viral: Chikungunya virus, Dengue virus, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus, Ebola virus, Lassa virus, Marburg virus, West Nile virus, Yellow fever virus, Zika virus Bacterial: Leptospira spp., Bacillus anthracis, Francisella tularensis, Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi, Salmonella enterica serovar Paratyphi A, Yersinia pestis Protozoan: Plasmodium spp., P. falciparum, P. vivax/ovale, and Leishmania spp. The Film Array integrates sample preparation, amplification, detection and analysis into one simple system that requires just 2 minutes of hands-on time, with a total run time of about an hour. The purpose of this acquisition is to reduce technician time and effort. The intent is for this platform to be increasingly distributed among all the NAMRU-6 study sites in Latin America, and therefore create a uniform diagnostic tool that provides data that is comparable between all the sites. It is the optimum platform for field use, being relatively small for a multiplex system.
