- Description
- Notice Type: Notice of Contract Action Mixed Reality Image Generator Justification, Statutory Authority: FAR 13.501(a) 41 USC 1901- Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. Contract Award Date: TBD Contract Award Number: TBD Synopsis: This is a Sole Source synopsis published for informational purposes only. The United States Air Force Test Center/Directorate of Contracting (AFTC/PZZE), Edwards AFB, CA intends to issue a sole source contract to Aechelon Technology, for their MR/XR Mixed Reality Image Generator system. The contract will be executed by means of other than full and open competition, due to the need to maintain commonality, interoperability and compatibility with the current systems located at Edwards AFB already used by the JSE team. In order to comply with FAR 5.207(c)(15), the reason for lack of competition is as follows: The requested Aechelon MR/XR Mixed Reality Image Generator (IG) has integrated sensor data via a Distributed Aperture System (DAS) and Helmet Mounting Cueing System (HMCS) systems. Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) has already purchased Aechelon IG's to support F-35 and F-22. The EWOS MR/XR Mixed Reality Image Generator IG's will require the same World Wide Database, as the current Visual Display Systems (VDS), to be able to interact with JSE during testing. All devices are required to be viewing the same data and viewing the same environment on the current Image Generation System (IG's). The current Word Wide Data was already procured at a large cost the government and using another World Wide Database would come at a great cost of money and time to the government. The purchase of Aechelon MR/XR Mixed Reality Image Generator is in the best interest of the Government. It is Also in the best interest of the government to establish a common hardware/firmware/software configuration across the joint-service enterprise. Commonality and interoperability allows the AF to achieve higher efficiency by using a shared spare parts pool for logistics support, establishes a joint-service system engineering baseline, and minimize costly validation and verification testing across the three operating locations. It will be a substantial duplication of cost to change systems already in use by the Joint Simulation Environment.
