Description

This is a follow up to RFQ N00173-22-Q-SP011 issued on 28 April 2022. The objective of this supplementary RFQ is to�ascertain�that there are responsible sources with the capability to provide a system with the requirements set forth in the attached Specifications Documents.� The Naval Research Laboratory has a critical need for a high temperature furnace system capable of heat treatments to a minimum of 2900 �C for evaluation of high temperature polymeric materials and ceramics under extreme environments.� The high temperature furnace system capable of heating to 2900 �C is a critical tool that alters material properties of samples for applications where extreme temperatures are experienced.� The current capabilities in the Materials Chemistry and Dynamics Branch consist of routine furnaces that are limited in the thermal ranges (<1700 �C).� Additionally, these capabilities lack the size requirements to heat treat large thick samples of at least 6� x 6� x 2� (L x W x H) for component fabrication. Our branch and division needs have shifted whereby we need equipment that can reach higher temperatures and large sample dimensions.� Having a furnace system readily available in the branch will allow us to evaluate materials and timely complete research objectives for numerous current and future programs.
