- Description
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to award a fixed-price contract on a sole source basis to ThermoFisher Scientific, Suwanee, GA for a KingFisher Flex Purification System with 96 deep-well head. This is a robotic nucleic extraction instrument. It is specifically designed and validated to process samples using Manufacturer extraction kits, including but not limited to, the MagMax Total Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit, which is currently the extraction kit used at Government facilities in Kenya. This instrument will be installed at Government facilities in Kenya where ThermoFisher Scientific equipment is currently used and is, therefore, compatible with existing laboratory equipment. ThermoFisher Scientific is the only known Vendor that has sufficient in-country support resources to perform installation, training, and servicing of a robotic extraction instrument at Government facilities. Compared to other robotic extraction instruments, the KingFisher system fits the available physical space in the laboratory and the volume of samples that can be extracted in a single run is greater than similar-sized instruments. This system can accommodate a larger variety of Manufacturer-supplied extraction kits, which are the most compatible reagents for both the environmental and clinical laboratory work already being conducted by the Government in Kenya. Purchasing this instrument would free up laboratory personnel resources since the extraction is done by the instrument instead of staff, and also allowing for more efficient use of bench space, due to its decreased footprint compared to the old, outdated instrument. All these advantages, which are specific this laboratory equipment and Vendor, increase overall laboratory efficiency, saving the Government time and financial resources and increasing its ability to perform additional research in support of the Agencys public health mission. The North American Industry Classification System Code (NAICS) for this requirement is 334516 with a size standard of 1,000 employees. This contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR Part FAR 13.1061 (b) and 10 U.S.C. 2304 (c) (1). Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals. This Notice of Intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, all quotations/responses received within five (5) calendar days of the issuance of this notice will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Any quotation/response should be emailed to the Contract Specialist, Lee Catherine Kennedy, at vhg0@cdc.gov by 10:00am ET, Friday, 29 July 2022.
