Description
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL) is in the process of constructing a new accelerator, PIP-II [1]. This 800 foot long superconducting linear accelerator is already under construction, and will come online in 2029. PIP-II accelerates particles using cryomodules. These cryomodules are composed of niobium electrically resonant RF cavities, instrumentation and cryogenic fluids among other technical components. For the installation of these cryomodules a dedicated system must be designed and fabricated. This Request For Information (RFI) is intended to solicit information from potential vendors for the design of this Cryomodule Tunnel Transportation System (CTTS). The CTTS has four major components, shown in Figure 2, within the scope of this RFI: The Tugger is the main component that moves the cryomodule load longitudinally (i.e. along the length axis of the cryomodule) down the PIP-II enclosure aisle. The Transport Carts and Tongue serves as the interface between the cryomodules adapter plates, the Tugger, and the enclosure floor. The two Transport Carts work in tandem to transport the cryomodules. The Adapter Plates serves as the interface between the cryomodules and the Transport Carts. Every series of cryomodule has slightly different interfaces. Four style of adapter plates will be required. The Installation Cart will be a separate unit that will transversely move the cryomodules towards the beamline and allows for the load handoff to the permanently-installed cryomodule stands.
