- Project Name: Grass Lake Stewardship IRSC Administrative Unit: Eastern Region (R9), Huron-Manistee National Forest, Huron Shores Ranger District, MI Project Location: The are four areas associated with this project. The first project area is located on Pine River Road approximately 1 mile north of Bissonette Rd. Legal land description is T24N R07E Sec 5; Oscoda Township, Iosco Co, MI. The second project area is located north of River Road and east of Whirlpool Rd. Legal land description is T24N R09E Sec 31; Oscoda Township, Iosco Co, MI. The third project area is located south of River Road and west of Grass Lake Rd. Legal land description is T23N R09E Sec 5; Ausable Township, Iosco Co, MI. The fourth area is located north of Old US 23 and east of Grass Lake Rd. Legal land description is T23N R09E Sec 4; Ausable Township, Iosco Co, MI. The project area lies entirely on National Forest System lands within the administrative boundaries of the Huron Shores Ranger District on the Huron-Manistee National Forest in Michigan. Description: The Huron-Manistee National Forest is currently soliciting the Grass Lake Stewardship IRSC which aims to clear out a stand of immature Jack Pine for fuel break creation. Goals will be accomplished through a series of silvicultural management activities designed to remove all biomass from the project area. The resultant contract will include Forest product removal on 383 acres with an estimated volume of 3029 CCF of Jack Pine-Other green biomass. The following work activities are anticipated as mandatory service items: 1. Mechanically cut and remove biomass 2. Road Maintenance on approximately 9 miles of native and improved surface road to facilitate hauling of included timber. Solicitation Site Visit Date and Time: The Forest will hold a site visit for prospective contractors to facilitate dialogue on contractual requirements that are anticipated in the contract and any operational limitations foreseen by attendees. The site visit will be held on Tuesday August 16th, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. EST with an initial meeting location at the Grass Lake Trailhead. Work is anticipated to begin in October 2022.
