- MACROFLORAL AND POLLEN ANALYSES OF SEDIMENT CORE Notice of Intent This is a notice of intent to solicit from a single source. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), intends to award a purchase order to Paleo Research Institute for the pollen and macrofloral analyses. Award will be made in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 13.106-1(b) and the procedures at FAR Part 12 entitled, Acquisition of Commercial Items and FAR Part 13 entitled, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. PaleoResearch Institute is, to the USGS� knowledge, the only source who can provide this type of analysis. It is well-known for developing the methods of washing groundstone. This method provides a much more direct measure of plant processing than does collection of sediments beneath, or next to, groundstone. The purpose of this notice is to satisfy the requirements of FAR Subpart 5.101(a)(2) and FAR 5.2. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. However, all responsible parties may submit a quotation by the closing date of this announcement which shall be considered by the agency. No solicitation will be issued. A determination not to compete this action based upon responses received is in the sole discretion of the Government. The NAICS code for this action is 541380, Testing Laboratory. Responses or inquiries shall only be accepted through electronic mail addressed to yangzhideng@usgs.gov and must be uploaded and received in their entirety no later than August 15, 2022 at 1700 ET. Statement of Work I. GENERAL INFORMATION A. Introduction We will send the lab sediment samples taken from a sediment core for analysis of pollen content over time. Pollen content is considered a proxy for environmental changes, and when coupled with a chronostratigraphy, will yield information on changes in climate over time. B. Background Program funding was provided for these analyses in conjunction with surficial mapping in Tuolumne Meadows, Yosemite National Park, California. C. Scope. These analyses are standardized and performed as such. II. WORK REQUIREMENTS A. Technical Requirements. 1. Describe specific work requirements and/or work products. These analyses are standardized throughout the industry and performed by this lab as such. PaleoResearch Institute has a longstanding reputation for consistency and professionalism among USGS scientists. 2. Criteria for acceptance of Product or Service. We will be able to quickly assess the precision of the lab work by comparing the lab results to one another. Because samples are collected physically in stratigraphic order, they should be consistently with than one another, in accordance to my field notes. The overall accuracy of the results will be assessed by comparison with published results for similar studies of samples collected in other Sierra subalpine meadows. B. Deliverables. 1. Lab will supply a tabulated description of pollen type and amount contained within the sediment sample, including specific information on its source (tree, shrub and grass species that are contained within each sediment sample). 2. Results will be delivered within a six-month period after samples are delivered to the lab. III. SUPPORTING INFORMATION A. Place of Performance: Contractor's facility B.
