Description
Overview In-space Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing (ISAM) technologies and capabilities are challenging the status quo, moving spaceflight toward a new operational paradigm. Seeking to empower U.S. leadership and energize the commercial ISAM marketplace, NASA invites domestic companies, academic institutions, and other government agencies to attend the agencys seventh ISAM Workshop. The event part of a series previously called, Technology Transfer Industry Days will be hosted by NASAs Goddard Space Flight Center October 17-18, 2022. On October 17, up to 75 participants will be welcomed with a tour of Goddard Space Flight Center facilities including a question-and-answer session and followed by an evening social event at the Crowne Plaza in Greenbelt, MD. On Tuesday October 18th, at the Crowne Plaza, NASA and other participating government agencies such as the United States Space Force will provide information on current ISAM activities, future opportunities, and technologies available for use by industry and academic partners. NASA will discuss the vision for the future of ISAM as well as specifics of the upcoming On-orbit Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing 1 (OSAM-1) (https://nexis.gsfc.nasa.gov/OSAM-1.html) and 2 (OSAM-2) (https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/tdm/osam-2.html) missions. This workshops agenda has been coordinated with and will be complementary to the Consortium for Execution of Rendezvous and Servicing Operations (CONFERS) (https://www.satelliteconfers.org/about-us/) Global Satellite Servicing Forum (GSSF) (https://www.satelliteconfers.org/). More details can be found on the Goddard ISAM technology website (https://nexis.gsfc.nasa.gov/isam/index.html) as they become available. Join us and share in the exciting possibilities of this burgeoning field! Participation in the workshop is limited to domestic entities and persons, due to the presence of International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR) data. Guests will be required to execute a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) prior to the Workshop. Attendees will not be compensated for expenses. Registration Interested parties must register no later than September 13, 2022. The link to register for the workshop will be posted to the Goddard ISAM technology website (https://nexis.gsfc.nasa.gov/isam/index.html) by August 17, 2022. Interested participants will be invited to register for the on-site tours once a signed NDA has been received. Additional Background The United States government has identified In-space Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing (ISAM) as key to continued American leadership in space. In April 2022, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) released their ISAM National Strategy (https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/04-2022-ISAM-National-Strategy-Final.pdf), which provides an interagency strategy guiding U.S. Government (USG) direction for and investments in ISAM capabilities and services. NASA and other government agencies are currently working on several projects to develop technologies in support of the objectives outlined in the ISAM National Strategy. These projects represent tangible progress towards realizing a capability suite critical to enabling a sustainable future for public and private space exploration. To meet future needs and bolster the U.S. economy, NASA is promoting a robust, domestic marketplace that can provide the government with cost-effective ISAM services. To facilitate the development of this commercial ISAM marketplace, NASA is proactively transferring technologies and expertise to industry via workshops, licensing, agreements, and other forms of support. The 2022 ISAM Workshop will share a vision and strategy that changes the paradigm of one and done missions. Domestic companies and academic institutions in attendance will learn about upcoming ISAM missions, desired ISAM services, opportunities for collaboration, and cutting-edge ISAM research. The workshop will also cover other space infrastructure topics including space domain awareness, sustainable space exploration, orbital debris mitigation/remediation, and more.
