- Description
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to award a sole source, firm fixed price contract to Bruker Scientific, LLC, 40 Manning Road Billerica, MA 01821. The program seeks to secure mass spectrometry (MS) technology to improve identification of enteric pathogens for cluster detection and outbreak investigations. Bruker MALDI Sirius CA system is the only FDA approved benchtop mass spectrometry system with a small footprint requiring less than 3 feet of counter space and a 110 V electrical outlet to identify the organisms we require (clinically relevant gram-negative and positive bacteria). Due to its 110V electrical supply, the instrument generates minimal heat which makes it suitable for the small procedure room identified for its use. The available room serves several purposes and cannot be reconfigured to accommodate a large piece of equipment. Due to these space constraints, the Bruker MALDI Biotyper sirius CA benchtop instrument is the only mass spectrometry instrument that will meet the branchs needs. The comparable mass spectrometry instruments offered by BioMerieux (Vitek MS) and Shimadsu (Axima MS) are 200-230 V floor model instruments approximately the size of a vending machine and cannot be accommodated without loss of valuable functionality in the available room. The Bruker MALDI sirius CA system is also the only system that can generate spectra compatible with extensive databases developed in-house by other groups at CDC (MicrobeNet) to leverage these valuable resources. In addition, the system has a unique, proprietary software module that can extract additional subtyping information from spectrograms for Listeria spp., an important foodborne pathogen the branch has responsibility for, to rapidly provide information to help guide outbreak investigations. This contract action is for a supplies which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) and 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1). The North American Industry Classification System code for this procurement is 423490 Other Professional Equipment and Supplies Merchant Wholesaleers. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals; however, all responses received within fifteen (15) days of the issuance of this notice will be considered by the government. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Any quotation/response must be emailed to contract specialist Alverta Lopez at qvb0@cdc.gov by 5:00PM, August 30, 2022. The Contracting Specialist will not respond to verbal request. All requests must be in writing.
