Description
The renovation of the Communications Bldg. 1109 project for the 187th Fighter Wing is intended to provide an exterior renovation and modification for the existing building. Built in 1973 to serve as an aircraft maintenance facility, the facility received an interior renovation in 2013. However, the facility has never received a renovation to the building exterior. The existing brick veneer has fallen into disrepair and requires replacement. In addition, exterior finishes shall be repaired as applicable and a new roof drainage system shall be installed. The new building envelope will be constructed in a way to meet and exceed current energy code standards. The improved building envelope will result in reduced energy consumption which will contribute to HPSB standards. A new entrance vestibule will also be constructed at the main entrance to the building. The new vestibule will be designed to mitigate current water infiltration occurring at the front door as well as provide an airlock to increase the energy efficiency of the facility and contribute to HPSB compliance. Other covered awnings are proposed to facilitate exterior pallet build up and mitigate water infiltration at secondary building entrances/exits. The project will also seek to create an efficient and intuitive layout by reconfiguring and repairing sidewalks and pavements, providing better accessibility for both pedestrians and delivery vehicles. The existing facility currently provides inadequate vehicular accessibility between delivery and storage locations. The project will seek to remedy the access and workflow flaws while also resolving the current anti-terrorism issues present in the current layout
