- Description
- The Defense Forensic Science Center (DFSC), Gillem Enclave, Forest Park, GA, is conducting market research for the purpose of identifying sources for digitizing forensic case file records currently existing only in hardcopy format. As part of this effort, DFSC would like to host a vendor day for the purpose of identifying interested vendors having the capacity and capability to digitize large quantities of paper records and provide storage, search, and retrieval capabilities so that the data can be indexed, searched and records retrieved as needed. The current scope of the project includes over thirty years of forensic analysis case files generated by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Laboratory (USACIL) of the DFSC. Said files consist of approximately 4,400 file boxes measuring 10x12x15. The documents are contained in legal sized, multi-part, pressed fiber folders. The majority of the documents in the folders are letter sized documents (>95%). However, many of the folders contain a few irregular sized documents and photographs requiring scanning. Finally, up to approximately 10% of the document are 2-sided and require duplex scanning. Indexing of file records must include the USACIL Case Number, Agency Case Number, Submitting Agency, Date Range, Subject Name, and Victim Name. File Records should be grouped in accordance with the file tabs as follows: Examination Request Documents, Chain of Custody Documents, Correspondence, and Examining Branches (e.g. Forensic Case Management, Latent Prints, Drug Chemistry, DNA Casework, etc.). Finally, we are considering migrating records from a legacy Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) into the same electronic archive with the documents described above. We may consider incorporating that effort into this digitizing project if feasible. If interested in attending vendor day, please contact Ned Tamburini at edmund.d.tamburini.civ@army.mil or Kevin Comegys at kevin.e.comegys.civ@army.mil. Please reference Interest in Attending Case File Digitizing Project Vendor Day in subject and provide list of personnel attending along with POC information.
